My story
How it Began
My healing journey began when I was 16 years old. I began experiencing debilitating symptoms seemingly out of the blue. I spent 10 years with MDs, DOs, nurses, specialists, psychiatrists and many others who thought they could help, searching for the cause. I took the numerous drugs I was prescribed; I underwent the unnecessary and invasive treatments; I spent thousands of dollars and hours doing what I was told to do.
In the end all I was left with was an antidepressant dependency, psychological insecurity, disordered eating patterns and no explanation as to what was really happening to me.
Taking charge
My moment of clarity came when I realized if I wanted to get better, I needed to take responsibility for my own body. If all of the top practitioners in the field were unable help me then I would learn how to help myself.
I began to research eastern medicine, nutrition, naturopathic therapies and anything else I could find on how to help the body heal itself, without subjecting it to chemicals and unnatural substances. I worked within new fields and with new practitioners. I began to understand the power of dialogue in a healing journey. I researched and tested detox regimens, parasitic cleanses, herbal courses, acupuncture and more. I slowly learned how to enjoy eating again and that I needed to let go of the rules I thought I knew in order to create a healing environment in which my body could thrive.
Discovering the New Me
In those transformative years, I found out that I had Celiac Disease, heavy metal poisoning, thyroid abnormality and a host of other issues that had gone undiagnosed for the previous 10 years. The culmination of my healing journey was in 2013, when I was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease, which was the likely cause of all my symptom and associated illnesses. It was the most terrified and at the same time the most relieved I have ever been. With the help of my doctors my family, and my friends, I have been successfully treating my Lyme Disease since my diagnosis.
With this knew knowledge and healing, I do not just feel like a new person -- I am a new person.
